The Bottom Line of Disabilities: The Social, Financial, and Economic Impact in our Communities
This event will examine the social, financial, and economic issues that impact how individuals with significant disabilities can be gainfully employed in the competitive labor market and safely integrated into the communities where they live. Panelists will include a cross section of business and community leaders and the role that governmental entities, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, researchers, businesses, and the nonprofit sector play in facilitating and advancing opportunities for these individuals.

Co-Owner and Co-Founder, The King's English BookshopBetsy Burton is the co-owner and co-founder of The King's English Bookshop, founded in 1977 in Salt Lake City. In addition to her life as a bookseller, she is also an activist for all things local. Her book, The King's English: Adventures of an Independent Bookseller, continues to be a bestseller at her book shop.
Jefferson Burton
Adjutant General, Utah National GuardMajor Gen. Jefferson Burton was appointed adjutant general of the Utah National Guard in October 2012. He is responsible for the readiness and training of 7,300 soldiers and airmen. Burton has served as a company commander, battalion executive officer and assistant professor of military science at both Brigham Young and Utah Valley Universities.
Robert Chamberlin
President and CEO, SourceAmericaRobert Chamberlain is president and CEO of SourceAmerica and served as vice president of operation prior to that. He was the deputy director of the Defense Logistics Agency at Fort Belvoir, Va., where he managed the 41,000-person organization responsible for worldwide logistics support of the U.S. Armed Forces.

Executive Director, Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of UtahTroy D’Ambrosio is currently the executive director of the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute at the University of Utah. The Institute has guided over numerous student and faculty startup companies from idea to launch – involving students along every stage of the process.
Michael Drury
Chief Economist, McVean Trading & InvestmentsMichael Drury is the chief economist for McVean Trading & Investments, LLC. He joined the firm in 1992, after serving for five years as senior economist with Allen Sinai at Shearson Lehman Brothers and its successor firms. Michael began his career in New York in 1982 as senior economist at A. Gary Shilling and Company. He received his B.S. in economics from the Georgia Institute of Technology and did his graduate work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Laurie Harmon

He is responsible for $1.5 billion non-labor purchasing for the company, which supports 24 hospitals and 130 clinics.

Chief Investment Officer of Cumberland AdvisorsDavid Kotok co-founded Cumberland Advisors in 1973 and has been its Chief Investment Officer since inception. David’s articles and financial market commentaries have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and other publications. Michael McNiven, Ph.D.
Senior Vice President and Regional Director of Investments, Cumberland AdvisorsMichael McNiven serves as Senior Vice President and Regional Director of Investments. In addition to working with clients as an investment advisor representative, Michael is responsible for Cumberland Advisors’ retirement services and is the regional representative for partner firms and financial advisors in the Midwest region of the United States.

In addition to the day-to-day operation of SDCERA’s Investment Division, he also assists SDCERA’s Board with determining the Fund’s investment policies, strategy and asset allocation.

Independent Director, CalamosBill Shiebler was CEO of the Americas for Deutsche Asset Management until his retirement in 2007. Prior to that, he served as senior managing director of Putnam Investments and president and CEO of Putnam Mutual Funds. He also spent twelve years at Dean Witter Reynolds, departing as president and chief operating officer of the Intercapital Division and the firm's mutual fund business.

Kyle Walker
Division Director, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Utah State Office of RehabilitationIn 2013, Kyle Walker was appointed division director, Division of Rehabilitation Services, Utah State Office of Rehabilitation (USOR). He works with policy makers at a state and Federal level advocating for programs that lead to employment and independence of people with disabilities. He joined the agency in 2000 as a rehabilitation counselor and has also served as administrative services director and client services director during his career there.
