Global Society of Fellows to Seek Academic Home
PHILADELPHIA – The Global Society of Fellows, hosted by the Global Interdependence Center (GIC) since its inception, will move to an academic home. GIC Board Member Paul McCulley, former managing director of PIMCO, founded the Global Society of Fellows in 2010 to be an independent research initiative, pairing a recognized industry expert with a rising academic scholar to address issues of global economics and monetary policy.
“We are grateful that GIC had the opportunity to incubate such a noble endeavor,” George Tsetsekos, chairman of GIC and dean emeritus of Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business, said. “After its successful launch at the GIC, we anticipate that the Society will continue to grow under the auspices of an academic organization that specializes in research.”
Paul McCulley released this statement regarding the transition:
“I look forward to continuing as a GIC board member in the years ahead, as well as a financial sponsor, through my Morgan le Fay Dreams Foundation.
I am grateful to the GIC Executive Committee, especially David Kotok, for working with me three years ago, when I sought to found and endow the Society of Fellows.
It has been a great adventure and with that experience, I have concluded that the Society’s mission would be enhanced with a more embedded home in the academic arena.
And, I’m intrigued by the possibility of teaching.
I look forward to dialogue with a number of schools about a melding of their programs and the Society’s mission and associated endowment.”
GIC’s primary focus will continue to be to convene high quality conferences around the world that bring together practitioners, policy-makers, academics and the media. In 2013, GIC conferences – in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates; Hamilton, Bermuda; Jackson Hole, Wyo.; Milan; Philadelphia; Portland, Ore. and Sarasota, Fla. – discussed pressing international issues and featured Sheila Bair, former chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation; James Bullard, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis; Richard Fisher, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas; Jeffrey Lacker, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond; Sandra Pianalto, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland; Charles Plosser, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia; Eric Rosengren, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and Axel Weber, chairman of UBS. In 2014, GIC will host conferences in Jackson Hole, Wyo.; New York; Paris; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Salt Lake City and Sarasota, Fla.
