Appoints Catherine L. Mann as Chief Economist
PARIS – The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has selected Catherine L. Mann, board member of the Global Interdependence Center, to become its new chief economist.
Mann was previously the Barbara ‘54 and Richard M. Rosenberg chair in global finance at the International Business School, Brandeis University. She also served as a visiting scholar at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington. Washington policy appointments include assistant director in the international finance division at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, senior international economist on the President’s Council of Economic Advisers and adviser to the chief economist at the World Bank. Mann received her Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and her undergraduate degree is from Harvard University.
A long time board member of the Global Interdependence Center (GIC), Mann routinely presents her respected research at GIC events. In 2014 to date, Mann has spoken at one-third of all GIC events. She also helps to steer the organization as a member of the executive committee.
In addition to GIC, Mann lends her expertise across a number of fora. She appears frequently on Bloomberg TV and on National Public Radio, and is quoted in BusinessWeek, The Economist and other major media. She has delivered keynote speeches and engaged in projects on technology and policy in countries ranging from China, Vietnam, Tunisia, South Africa, to Australia, Finland, France and Germany, among others.
Mann will begin her duties as chief economist of the OECD in October. Founded in 1960, the OECD is an intergovernmental organization with a mission to “promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.” The OECD currently has 34 member countries.
