27th Annual Monetary and Trade Conference
What: With the demise of many financial institutions during the past year, the 27th annual Monetary and Trade Conference at Drexel University will address the tough issues these institutions are facing and what needs to change going forward. A collaborative effort between Drexel University’s LeBow College of Business and the Global Interdependence Center, the conference is aimed at convening top policymakers and business leaders on the important developments in international trade and global monetary policy. This year’s keynote address will feature Dr. William Poole, former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and a senior fellow at the Cato Institute, who will discuss the failure of the banking system in his talk, “Saying Goodbye to Too Big to Fail.”

Who/When: The conference will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Thursday, April 30. The keynote will be delivered at 11:15 a.m. Other presentations are: 8:30 a.m. Bank Industry Analysis by Chris Whalen, managing director of Institutional Risk Analytics and Nancy A. Bush, CFA, NAB Research, LLC. The analysis will be moderated by Martin Heldring, senior vice president, TD Bank, and GIC Board of Directors. 9:25 a.m. Barry Ritholtz, CEO, director of Equity Research at Fusion IQ, will speak on how greed and easy money corrupted Wall Street and shook the world economy. 10:20 a.m. Macro views of financial crisis by Bob Eisenbeis, chief monetary economist at Cumberland Advisors, and Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial. 11:15 a.m. Keynote on failure of banking system by Poole.
