Desmarais Global Finance Lecture: Central Bank Digital Currencies and Alternative Payment Systems
The Global Interdependence Center’s College of Central Bankers is partnering with the Desmarais Global Finance Research Centre at the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University for the upcoming Desmarais Global Finance Lecture on September 28, 2022. Our presenters will include leading financial researchers, and policy and decision makers, in addition to our keynote speaker, Darrell Duffie, Adams Distinguished Professor of Management and Professor of Finance of the Graduate School of Business, Stanford. We invite you to join us to explore Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and other timely topics.

Darrell Duffie, Ph.D.
Adams Distinguished Professor of Management and Professor of Finance of the Graduate School of Business, StanfordDarrell Duffie is the Dean Witter Distinguished Professor of Finance at Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business. He is a fellow and member of the Council of the Econometric Society, a research fellow of the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Duffie was the 2009 president of the American Finance Association and chaired the Market Participants Group in 2014.

Dean of the Desautels Faculty of Management, McGill UniversityDr. Yolande E. Chan joined McGill University’s Desautels Faculty of Management as Dean and James McGill Professor in August 2021.
Paul Chilcott, Ph.D.
Advisor to the Governor, Bank of CanadaPaul Chilcott was appointed Advisor to the Governor in 2015. In this role, Mr. Chilcott focuses on payments system and financial market issues. Prior to joining AIG in 2010, Kathleen was Chief Economist at Aladdin Capital Holdings, Credit Suisse’s Head of Global Economic Research, and Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette Securities Corporation’s co-head of Fixed Income economic research and Chief International Economist.
Katrin Tinn, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Finance, McGill University, Desautels Faculty of ManagementKatrin Tinn's research focuses on theoretical modelling, technological innovation, financial economics, information economics. Her most recent work is on FinTech: the role of crowdfunding and distributed ledger technologies (blockchain) in raising external capital and facilitating learning about future demand, and on central bank digital currency design.
Maarten van Oordt, Ph.D.
Associate Professor, School of Business and Economics, Finance,VU AmsterdamMaarten is associate professor at the department of Finance of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Prior to his work at the VU, Maarten worked as a Research Advisor at the Banking and Payments Department at the Bank of Canada to mentor a team of talented young research economists that advised the Bank on cryptocurrencies and central bank digital currency (CBDC).
