President of the Richmond Federal Reserve to Be Honored as Global Citizen
The Global Interdependence Center to Honor Jeffrey Lacker on Nov. 1 in Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA – The Global Interdependence Center is proud to name Jeffrey Lacker, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, as its 2013 Global Citizen.
Since beginning his tenure as president in 2004, President Lacker has shaped U.S. monetary policy, serving three one-year terms on the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC). During his most recent term in 2012, President Lacker demonstrated his reputation as an independent thinker, dissenting at all eight FOMC meetings. His recent speeches and commentary have focused on ending “too big to fail” in the US banking sector, a condition which, according to Mr. Lacker, could lead to an increased willingness by institutions to take on significant risk.
The Global Interdependence Center (GIC) selected Mr. Lacker as the 2013 Global Citizen because of his ability and eagerness to provide a unique and thoughtful perspective on U.S. monetary policy to the public at large – through conversations with the media and event speeches. Mr. Lacker’s recent appearances at GIC conferences and other events have helped GIC members and the public to better understand monetary policy’s far-reaching impact and have underscored a main tenet of GIC’s founding document, the Declaration of Interdependence: “that the economy of all nations is a seamless web.”
Mr. Lacker will accept the Global Citizen Award at a public ceremony at noon on Nov. 1, 2013, at the Union League of Philadelphia.
